Not What I Do took only a couple of
days to write and really started as an acoustic guitar song with no
vocal melody. I decided that it needed lyrics, so I wrote it
about being in a relationship and being attracted to someone else at
the same time. The singer (me) decides that it is better not to
get involved with the object of his attraction, and as a result, the
temporary attraction fades away. So many songs are about
relationships, but this is one is about a nonrelationship, which is I
guess the reason for the somewhat unique title. After writing the
song, I noticed a strong resemblance to the chords and melody of House at Pooh Corner by Kenny
Loggins, but it's different enough and certainly wasn't
intentional. Although, releasing the song could potentially put
me in the danger zone . . .
