I'm
in Love was written
over a long period of time. I wrote the music first, shortly
before my ill-fated tour with the El Orbits in the summer of
2003. I had made a scratch recording of the music with a drum
machine to listen to in the car, but I never got
around to writing a melody or any lyrics for it. Instead I wrote
a song called Splinters.
I didn't complete this song until the winter of 2004. Until then,
I hadn't really come up with anything that echoed the feeling I get
from the music. I think the ephasis on changing perspectives as
the song moves from the verse to the pre-chorus is really what makes it
work. My favorite part of the song, which is the ending, also
came about at that time. It was
partly inspired by the Beach Boys' God
Only Knows, but then who
hasn't been inspired by that song at one point or another?
Anyway, make sure to listen to the whole track, because the end really
makes it worth it, at least I think it does.
